Marita King and her husband, Jim, are snowbirds. Each year they join the ranks of North Americans who escape the northern winter to live for a few months in the sunny climate of Mexico. Their destination in 2012 was the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca where they found temporary homes in Oaxaca de Juárez and Puerto Escondido. While the capital city charms with its diverse cultures, colorful history, nearby market towns, and world famous archeological sites, the quiet harbor town of Puerto Escondido is a haven for lovers of beaches and nature alike.

Born in East Germany, a refugee in West Germany, immigrant to the United States, military wife in Japan, and live-aboard sailor in Australia, Marita has lived on four continents. She resigned her tenured faculty position at The Ohio State University to pursue her passion of traveling around the world. After many years abroad, Marita now has a home base in Ohio, occasionally teaches, gives public lectures, travels frequently, and lives part of each winter in Mexico.
