As Finland's withdrawal from World War II draws ever closer, a tentative relationship between an abandoned Finnish soldier (Veikko) , a Lapp woman (Anni), and a Russian captain (Ivan) accused of anti-Soviet correspondence offers momentary solace to a trio of lost souls. A chained to a rock , Veikko managed to set himself free. Ivan, a captain of the Soviet Army, arrested by the Front Secret Police, has a narrow escape. They are soldiers of the two enemy armies.
