Where Do Zombies Come From?

 Learn about the origins of the zombie myth in Haitian voodoo tradition and how Hollywood interpreted the legend in films in the 1930's and 1940's. We will discuss George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" (1968) and how that image of the zombie has influenced more recent films and how all these movies represent the fears of Americans at various points in history.

Ann Shifflet is an instructor at the Columbus College of Art and Design in the History of Art and Design Department. She areas of focus include Art, Design and Culture, History of Modern Design, 19th Century Art, Romanticism in Art, Northern Renaissance Art and Zombies in Literature, Legend and Film. Shifflet graduated with a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Rochester and her M.A. in Art History from the University of South Carolina.
